I think in general this is a flawed way of thinking about scripture because it's too corruptable by the human mind and our own predjudices. It is much better to approach scripture with a mind of curiosity, and knowing what you will apply at agains (for me, it's the greatest commandment), rather than "what do I think God which is actually just myself" wants me to know about this passage. This way is much, much harder, but ultimately more fulfilling - hard things usually are.
